We’re excited to share a recap of our July 30th, 2023 Bitcoin meetup in Lusaka, Zambia, although a bit delayed. We promise that our future posts will be more timely, like our previous ones.
The meetup was organised by Bitcoin for Fairness (BFF), a non-profit initiative that raises knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin for people in emerging countries and for disadvantaged people. We have been holding regular meetups in Zambia since we had our first meetup in May 2022 at the University of Zambia.
Our July meeting was based on a new format. All our previous meetups were held at a central location for participants from all over Lusaka. This time we decided to have a meetup at a local Reggae pub for participants from Kamwala South and Libala. This shift aims to build stronger connections within local neighborhoods and expand our impact.
We will still continue to have meetups at a central location, but will also be having meetups in local areas within Lusaka to build deeper connections among bitcoiners in the same neighborhood. In this process, we will also appoint Bitcoin for Fairness ambassadors in those areas.
We had 7 participants, two of them came late after the first group had dispersed, but we managed to have a short meetup with them. Despite some attendees arriving late, our July meetup was lively. We discussed a number of Bitcoin-related topics, the main one being potential for high school Bitcoin education in the area. This will be one of the main activities going forward.
We are excited to continue to grow the Bitcoin community in Zambia. If you are interested in learning more about Bitcoin or getting involved in the community, please contact us.
BFF is a non-profit initiative raising knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin for people in emerging countries and for disadvantaged people.
