The Bitcoin for Fairness (BFF) Zambia team and the Bitcoin Banamayo Community in Zambia actively participated in Africa Bitcoin Day on May 27, 2023, held in Lusaka, Zambia. Africa Bitcoin Day serves as a continent-wide celebration of the increasing adoption of Bitcoin in Africa.
The event took place simultaneously in numerous African countries, featuring various activities such as meetups, panel discussions, film screenings, sports, community outreach, neighborhood tours, and beach parties. In Zambia, the day’s festivities included street-based Bitcoin education along Cairo Road, the primary business, retail, and service hub of Lusaka. The team distributed informative flyers and successfully assisted in installing Bitcoin wallets and sending small Bitcoin amounts to newcomers.
Due to the bustling nature of the crowded street, capturing photos during the event posed challenges, particularly regarding privacy concerns. As a result, only a limited number of photos could be taken to respect the privacy of individuals in the busy street.
BFF is a non-profit initiative raising knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin for people in emerging countries and for disadvantaged people. The initiative was founded by Anita Posch, bitcoin educator, author and podcaster.
Bitcoin Banamayo Community is a new bitcoin education initiative targeting women in Zambia. The project idea came as a result of monthly bitcoin meetups in Zambia organised by BFF.
