August 2023 Bitcoin Meetup in Lusaka, Zambia

As part of our ongoing efforts to promote Bitcoin education and adoption in Zambia, Bitcoin for Fairness (BFF) has been hosting regular monthly meetups in Lusaka since the first bitcoin meetup in Zambia held at the University of Zambia in May 2022. These meetups, which initially took place at a central location, have now evolved into mini-meetups held in different neighborhoods across the city. This shift aims to foster stronger connections within local communities and expand our impact.

By bringing Bitcoin education directly to neighborhoods, BFF hopes to break down barriers and make Bitcoin more accessible to individuals who may not have the opportunity to attend our larger meetups hosted at a central location of the city. The August 2023 meetup, held over beers at the Police Training College in Lilayi area, Lusaka on August 30th, was the second in this new format, aimed at strengthening local connections.

At the meetup, we talked about the history of money, how Bitcoin works, followed by an engaging Q&A session. We also helped attendees install Bitcoin wallets and demonstrated the practical applications of Bitcoin by purchasing airtime using Bitcoin.

BFF is committed to empowering communities through Bitcoin education and fostering financial inclusion. If you are interested in learning more about Bitcoin or getting involved in the growing Bitcoin community in Zambia, please reach out to us. Together, we can harness the transformative power of Bitcoin to create a more equitable and fairer future for all.

BFF is a non-profit initiative raising knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin for people in emerging countries and for disadvantaged people. The Lusaka Bitcoin meetups are part of BFF’s public bitcoin education activities in Zambia. The initiative was founded by Anita Posch, bitcoin educator, author and podcaster. Other bitcoin meetups organised by BFF have taken place in Ghana, Zimbabwe and Nigeria.
