On Saturday, December 30th, 2023, Bitcoin for Fairness (BFF) hosted a successful meetup in Lilayi Estate, Lusaka, Zambia. This end of the year event marked the continuation of BFF’s innovative initiative to decentralize Bitcoin education by holding mini-meetups within local communities.
Since the inaugural Bitcoin meetup in Zambia at the University of Zambia in May 2022, BFF has consistently organized monthly gatherings. Recognizing the need for wider accessibility, we transitioned to neighborhood-based events since July 2023, fostering stronger connections and expanding its reach. Our central meetups attracted a wider audience, but potentially limited engagement within specific neighborhoods.
The meetup took place at the home of one of the participants. Our October meetup took place at the same place. Attendees comprised of college students living in the area.
The meetup went beyond theoretical knowledge, providing practical insights into the real-world applications of Bitcoin. Attendees were guided through the process of installing their own Bitcoin wallets and receiving sats. To showcase the practical utility of Bitcoin, a live demonstration of purchasing airtime using Bitcoin via Bitrefill was conducted.
BFF is committed to empowering communities through Bitcoin education and fostering financial inclusion. If you are interested in learning more about Bitcoin or getting involved in the growing Bitcoin community in Zambia, please reach out to us.
BFF is a non-profit initiative raising knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin for people in emerging countries and for disadvantaged people. The Lusaka Bitcoin meetups are part of BFF’s public bitcoin education activities in Zambia. The initiative was founded by Anita Posch, bitcoin educator, author and podcaster. Other bitcoin meetups organised by BFF have taken place in Ghana, Zimbabwe and Nigeria.
