From March 22 to March 29, Zambia hosted an inspiring Bitcoin Education Week led by global Bitcoin educator Anita Posch and supported by her non-profit initiative, Bitcoin for Fairness (BFF). The series of events was organized in collaboration with Bitcoin Zambia, a local education hub born from BFF and Anita’s earlier work in the country.
This marked Anita Posch’s fourth visit to Zambia since 2022, reflecting her deep and ongoing commitment to fostering Bitcoin understanding in the underdeveloped world. Each event during the week was designed to deepen local knowledge, build confidence, and encourage real-world use of Bitcoin as a tool for financial freedom.
March 22 – Bitcoin Meetup at Scallywags
The week began with a lively Bitcoin meetup at Scallywags Restaurant in the capital Lusaka, where Bitcoiners and newcomers came together to share stories, explore ideas, and discuss the impact of Bitcoin in Zambia and beyond. It set the tone for a week filled with energy and curiosity.
March 25 – Bitcoin Mining Site Visit & Braai
Participants got a rare, hands-on look at a local Bitcoin mining operation, seeing how proof-of-work functions in the real world. The experience ended with a community braai — a perfect setting for informal networking and deeper discussions about energy, sovereignty, and innovation. This event was proudly supported by Bitcoin for Fairness.
March 26 – BitDevs Meetup at AfricaWorks
Zambia hosted its first-ever BitDevs meetup, a significant milestone for the local Bitcoin developer community. Held at AfricaWorks and supported by Bitcoin for Fairness, the event brought together developers, builders, and curious minds for deep technical discussions on Bitcoin. Topics included the inner workings of Bitcoin, its security model, and the vital role African developers can play in shaping the global Bitcoin ecosystem. You can view the slides of Posch’s talk at the meetup here.
March 27 – Campus Meetup with Bitcoin Campus Zambia
Education Week continued with an energizing meetup attended by members of Bitcoin Campus, a community of students and young people exploring Bitcoin. The session focused on financial empowerment, the fundamentals of Bitcoin, and how decentralized money can offer hope for a more equitable financial future.
Participants also downloaded the Aqua Wallet and received sats, giving them a practical introduction to using Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.
March 29 – Women’s Bitcoin Workshop
The week closed on a high note with a dynamic Women’s Workshop led by Bitcoin Banamayo, a women-focused Bitcoin education initiative. The session featured a powerful lineup of local female educators — Natasha, Tamara, and Tilo — who guided participants through hands-on learning experiences.
Twenty-one women attended the workshop, many of whom received sats for the first time, using the Aqua Wallet. The event highlighted the growing inclusion of women in Zambia’s Bitcoin ecosystem and the power of peer-led education to spark confidence and curiosity.
A Growing Movement
Bitcoin Education Week demonstrated what can happen when global support meets local passion. Through consistent engagement and collaboration, Bitcoin for Fairness and Bitcoin Zambia are helping to build a community-driven, decentralized future — one block at a time.
